Men have devoured the planet to become gods
Blood, sweat, desire, fear, and loyalty drove them to madness
The Greeks mingled and shared their freedom with blood from their swords
Explaining to the known world that they were here to stay
But they slipped and lost their footing
Then a wolf nursed two boys from the wild
Rome became an empire and held on by their fingernails
But the roads led to the east
To an isthmus that tried to keep them alive
Butchering and hacking the remembrance of Rome
Then foreigners from the steps threatened life to horrible pains
Disease seeped up from the roots of existence and stricken the ones that wanted mercy
Brutality and control made a destructive culture
But the cross laid in the clouds above
Then in the night sky a crescent moon formed
A new power was created from the sand dunes with a fiery fever
Flooding their zeal with no understanding
Until the dam of the cross held them at bay
Bloods lines rolled over the continent like waves on the shore
Our good father made sure of their divine presence
Fake crowns sprouted and ruled over the lands that created wounds
Then a name not created but remembered said its first words.....Democracy
A forgotten concept that had to be controlled
Slaughter served up as a dish to the ones who have always been silent
The poor screaming in the streets with wild hunger hidden in their voices
While peering eyes stare from marble balconies
Fear racing through their minds but expressionless
Fists pumping into the air, finally, freedom has been given
Or has it..........
